Why Emotional Intelligence is So Exciting Video Transcript

Nancy McLeod: One of the reasons I am so excited about Emotional Intelligence is that Emotional Intelligence is unlike IQ (Intellectual Quotient). Emotional Intelligence (EI) because it can be learned! Anybody can learn Emotional Intelligence. It does take commitment and it does take practice, but, anybody can learn it.

One of the reasons that we want to learn about Emotional Intelligence is that research tells us that leaders who have a high EI are much more successful because people want to work with people who listen to them, pay attention to them, and get excited about them. People who, when they are feeling emotional, can quell their emotion, taking a deep breath and slowing down so that they don’t respond from an emotionally unhelpful place.

So, Emotional Intelligence can be learned and Emotional Intelligence is something that actually helps create much more success in the workplace than Intellectual Intelligence. That’s why I’m really excited about Emotional Intelligence!
